Resident of Clayton
Kenneth Fredrick Byrd, 88, died surrounded by his family on October 24, 2013 in Clayton. Ken was born on August 21, 1925 in Venice, Illinois and was raised in an Odd Fellows Home after the death of his mother. He served with the US Army during WWII and was a part of General MacArthur's invasion of the Philippines. Ken was an avid baseball fan who was faithful to his San Francisco Giants! He was one of the founders of Clayton Valley Little League. He served the city of Clayton in many ways, working hard to have it incorporated. Ken was a founding member of St. Bonaventure Church where he spent many hours working in the Food Pantry. Ken was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather! Ken is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Byrd, sons George Byrd (Barbara) and Ken Byrd, grandchildren, Allyson Vesce (Brian) and Amanda Welch (Joseph), great-grandchildren, Jacob, Mya and Avery as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 30, 2013 commencing at 10AM with Funeral Liturgy at 11AM at St. Bonaventure Church, 5562 Clayton Road, Concord. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Lafayette. Memorials in Ken's name may be made to St. Bonaventure Food Pantry.
