Obituaries from the Past Three Days

Boyson Maring, Daphne Helen
Daphne Helen Boyson was born in Alameda California to Simon and Alma (Henricksen) Boyson on April 14, 1916. She grew up there attending Lincoln Elementary and graduating from Alameda High School in 1934. She then graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1938. In 1936 she met William Maring at her cousin's wedding when she was the maid of honor and he was best man. They married in 1940 after he finished college at Michigan State and came back to the bay area to work on Treasure Island. Some of her favorite memories were of the frequent family gatherings in Petaluma at her Henricksen grandparent's chicken farm. Both sets of grandparents were born on the Frisian Island of Fohr, off the coast of Germany and Denmark, as were many families who emigrated to Petaluma, so there were many families to join in on these gatherings. After the war her husband went to work for the Forest Service and they lived in Pollack Pines. After their third daughter was born they decided to live in an area that the girls could be better educated, so they moved to St. Helena in Napa Valley where he worked for Pacific Lumber Company. He was later transferred to Humboldt County where they lived until he retired in 1978. They moved to Fairfield to be closer to three of their children at that time. During their Humboldt County years, Daphne worked as a substitute teacher and was the librarian in the small town of Samoa. She enjoyed playing bridge, and doing all kinds of handwork. She completed many beautiful quilts for her family that were constructed every stitch by hand. She also traveled with family at any opportunity. Two of her favorite trips were to the Frisian Islands to visit family, and a tour of country inns from the south of England up to Northern Scotland. She also traveled many times with her daughters to many parts of the United States. She is survived by daughters Joan MacKellar of Summerfield Florida Susan, and husband Charles Honeywell, also of Summerfield, Florida, and Janice and husband Robert Walker of Orland Ca. She is also survived by her son Alan and wife Kim Maring of Fairfield, Ca. She left behind six grandchildren, Jenna Walker Jackson, Jordan Walker, Travis Maring Jeff Maring, Greg Maring and Brynn MacKellar Eades. She was also loved by her great grandchildren, Lyla and Sadie Jackson, Tripp and Walter Walker, Andre and Kaylee Maring, Chloe Maring, and Colin and Mavis Eades. She is also survived by her dear cousin Donald Andresen of Novato, Ca. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, and her sister Marjorie Boyson Beumer. She will be buried with her family at the cemetery in Petaluma and a celebration of life will take place in Petaluma in April, which would have been her 99th birthday. She was a bright light in the life of anyone who knew her and she will be a lasting memory to all of us who were lucky enough to share a wonderful life with her. Donations maybe made in her name to the Humane Society Town and Country, a no kill animal shelter at 4111 County Road 99w, Orland, Ca. 95963, for the benefit of the kitties, two of whom she adopted and loved.
