Odell Chandley passed away Oct. 10, 2013 in Corning. He was born in 1928 in Grandview, Texas. Odell moved to California when he was four years old. He attended school in Princeton and Colusa, graduating from Colusa High School.
Odell enlisted in the Navy around 17, serving in the China area, discharged in less then a year when they learned he was only 17.
He returned to Colusa where he worked at Comfort Meat Market.
In 1949 he married Jean Withrow of Princeton. In 1950 he was called back into the Navy for the Korean, Japanese war, he served 2 years. He returned to Colusa and worked at Purety Store as a produce manager. He moved to the bay area for 4 years and then to Woodland. He retired from the grocery business in 1981.
He was an avid fan of jazz music and he loved reading western books.
Odell and Jean spent 9 years at Lake Almanor fishing; he always said he would "Rather fish then eat"!
The last 22 years he and Jean lived near Corning.
He is survived by his wife Jean; daughters, Julie Sheffield of Woodland, Kim Stetler of Pollock Pines, Sherry Kronline of Garden Valley, Penny Chandlery of Corning; 9 grandchildren, Brian of Spokane, Wash., Crystal of Grants Pass, Ore., Laura, Amanda, and Karrah of Garden Valley, Toni of Woodland, Arthur, Tori, and Terri of Corning; 10 great-grandchildren, Asher, Addle, Evie, Mackenzie of Garden Valley, Payton, Carter, and Andrew of Oregon, Skyler, Jackson, and Kierra of Washington. He was preceded in death by 9 sisters, 1 brother, and a great grandson, Noah.
Burial was held at Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland Oct. 18, 2013 at 1:30.
