Doris McKelvy Obituary

Doris Ruth McKelvy, passed away at her daughter's home in Brookings on May 12, 2012. She was 87.

Doris was born to Harry C. and Dora (Burbank) Calhoun on October 22, 1924 in Sycamore, Ill. At the age of two, she moved to California where she spent the next 85 years calling the city of Corning her home. She married Edward B. McKelvy in 1946. He worked for the US Forest Service, and the couple traveled throughout California for his work for some time. Her heart was always in Corning and the family returned permanently in 1961. Although she thought she was an only child, Doris learned in 2001 that she had a younger brother, and a younger sister. She spent the next five years getting to know them and visiting them in Georgia, Florida, and California. In 2010, due to health issues, Doris moved to Brookings, Oregon, with her daughter and son in law, Mark Bonner.

Doris was a full time wife and mother, getting involved in all of her children's activities. She was on Tehama County election boards for many years.

Survivors include her daughter, Bobette Bonner of Brookings; sons, Brad McKelvy of Warrenville, South Carolina and Forrest McKelvy of Corning, Calif. There are also eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward "Mac" McKelvy; her brother, Eugene C. Calhoun; and her sister, Janet L. Cheek.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband and her mother at Sunset Hills Cemetery, June 4, 2012.
