Karen was born on September 20, 1940 to her parents Bert and Alta May Christensen and grew up in Pomeroy, Wash. She was the only girl surrounded by four brothers and found early on a passion for caring for others. After high school, she followed her pursuits to San Jose City College where she received her degree in Nursing. She honed her nursing skills for several years in San Jose before accepting a position at Colusa Community Hospital where she settled in Colusa, California. Karen was a sister of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was an active and devoted member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Karen treasured her lifelong relationships she gained from both organizations. Karen was a compassionate caregiver who put the needs of others before her own, leaving a legacy of countless lives touched. She eventually retired from her career of nursing as a Home Health Nurse.

Karen was a bachelorette until the age of 38. On a blind date she met the love of her life, Stanley Rice, and they shared a brief courtship and were married in 1978. In 1979, they were blessed with a son, Philip. She was a devoted wife and mother, who treasured her one and only son. Karen will always be remembered for her keen sense of humor. She was very quick witted and always good for a laugh, enjoying life's humor with family and friends.

Karen is survived by her loving son, Philip of Folsom Calif.; three brothers, David Christensen of Bound Brook N.J., Eric Ray Christensen of Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico, Patrick Christensen of Ravensdale Wash and numerous, much adored, nieces and nephews.
