James B. "Jim" Allman
COSHOCTON: James Benjamin "Jim" Allman, 77, of Coshocton left this world at 10:15 P.M., Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.
Born June 25, 1936 in Coshocton, he was the son of the late John Franklin and Alice Munter (Parks) Allman.
A 1954 graduate of Coshocton High School, Jim had been a machine operator at the former General Electric Company for more than 28 years until retiring in 1993.
Jim was one of the founders of the Three Rivers Racing Pigeons Club in which he raised and raced homing pigeons for over 60 years. At age 13 he started racing homing pigeons and his home displays 111 trophies which have been awarded to him throughout the years. Several of his pigeons raced over 500 miles to return to their home in Coshocton. Jim was well known throughout this area for his knowledge of pigeons and will be remembered for his garage which he called his pigeon hospital.
Jim was a loving husband to his wife Sandra Lou Womer whom he married on June 16, 1957; father to Julie (Tim) Holder of LaGrange, KY, Joni Dennis of Marietta, James B. (Angie) Allman II of West Lafayette; grandfather to Jennifer (Jacob) Blair, Kathryn Holder, Kyle (Bobbi) Lawrence, Shandra (Tony) Porreca, Sarah Dennis, Leighanna Allman, AJ Allman, Ashley Jones, Todd Walker; and great-grandfather to Preston Gage Porreca.
In addition to his parents Jim was preceded in death by a brother John Robert "Pete" Allman and his best friend since age five Ivan Ford.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the Free Funeral Home, Coshocton with Evangelist Ron Davis officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 12 Noon to 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the Free Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
