DRESDEN: Mary L. Smythe, 96, of Trinway, Ohio died Wednesday morning, January 23, 2013 at Genesis Morrison Hospice in Zanesville.

Born October 15, 1916 in Barnesville, Ohio she was a daughter of the late Jessie and Gussie (Simmons) Ensley and was a homemaker. Mrs. Smythe was a member of the Trinway United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Dresden Presbyterian Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher for many years. She enjoyed crocheting.

Surviving is three sons and daughters in-law, Forrest and Thelma Smythe of Newark, Harvey and Nancy Smythe of Heath and Francis "Smiley" and Pam Smythe of Dresden; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren and a nephew, Bob Baird of Gratiot, Ohio. Also surviving are her very special friends, Wanda Schneider, Audie Kirker, Mike Stotts and Jerry and Barb Smith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ira Smythe whom she married December 31, 1933 and two sisters, Anna Baird and Erma Lowendick.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8pm Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.

Funeral service will be 11:00am Friday, January 25, 2013 at the funeral home with Lay Minister Sharon Vickers officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Madison Township.
