NEWARK: Charles F. ("Charlie") Williams, 88, died March 18, 2013 at his home in Newark, Ohio. He was born in the small rural community of Walhonding, Ohio on May 29, 1924 to G.J. ("Jack") and Zelma (Elder) Williams.
Charlie lived with his parents in several locations as he was growing up, but home for Charlie and his sister, Helen, and his brothers, Max, Bill, Bob and Fred, came to be Orchard Heights in the village of Roscoe. The hillside family farm overlooked the city of Coshocton at the confluence of the Walhonding and Tuscarawas Rivers and down the Muskingum River valley. He graduated from Roscoe High School in May 1942 and enlisted in the Army Air Corp to support the war effort. He received pilot training at various air bases throughout the southern United States, earned his pilot's wings and was eventually deployed in the Pacific as an air rescue pilot.
Charlie married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy (Turner) in April 1944. Their son, Charles, was born in April 1948 followed three years later by their daughter, Sandra, in July 1951. Charlie was very focused on his family and provided for them throughout his career with Kaiser Aluminum located in Heath, Ohio.
Charlie's legacy of devotion to his family lives on through his wife, Dorothy, his two children and their spouses, Kathie (Earlewine) and Carl Davis, four grandchildren, Glenn, Nathan, Dawn and Melinda and five great-grandchildren, Colin, Aiden, Elizabeth, Kathryne and Charles.
At Charlie's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private memorial will be held at a later time for immediate family members. Donations honoring Charlie's life may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio 43055.
