WEST LAFAYETTE: George Edward Ours, 87, of West Lafayette, Ohio, passed away on October 5, 2012 at Lafayette Pointe Nursing Home.
He was born in Lancaster, Ohio on January 2, 1925, the son of the late Raymond and Ruth (Butts) Ours. George graduated from West High School, in Columbus, Ohio in 1943. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps as a Bombardier Navigator during World War II. After the war he attended The Ohio State University, and played and pitched for the baseball team. From his accomplishments at the collegiate level George was offered a Minor League Baseball contract. On June 16, 1946 he married Peg (McCormick) Ours, who survives. George enjoyed all athletics, but most of all his golf. He was a member of the Roscoe United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, Roscoe Choir, and the Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by his three children, Marsha (David) Duling of West Lafayette, Ohio, Gerald (Debby) Ours of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Susan Ours of Indianapolis, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Kimberly, Denise, Carrie, James, Devon, Amy, and Catherine; five great grandchildren, Spencer, Preston, Josh, Mark, and Alex; and two sisters, Norma (Hanford) Gunnerson, and Joyce Sarver.
In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Wilber Sarver.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Given-Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 1:00PM with Pastor Steven Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery where the Coshocton County Veterans Council will perform military honors. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service from 11AM-1PM on Friday.
