BALTIC: John F. Torgler, 78, of 201 W. St., Baltic, died Friday, October 4, 2013 at 7:30 PM in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.
Born May 30, 1935 in Pearl, Ohio he was a son of the late Anne (Ott) Torgler Rehard. John Retired from Gerber and Son Feed Company in Baltic after 17 years of employment. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church at Baltic and the West Lafayette Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, the former Geneva Shafer whom he married October 2, 1955; also surviving are two daughters, Kim Gerber of Baltic, Kelly (Mark) Butler of Medina; and two grandsons, Ryan (Melissa) Gerber of Sugarcreek and Tyler Gerber of Columbus.
In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by a son in law, Mike Gerber and a sister, Rose Marie Hunbertson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM in St. John Lutheran Church at Baltic. Rev. John Paul Maroni will officiate and burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery at Baltic. Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 PM in the Smith-Varns Funeral Home at 1018 W. Main St., Sugarcreek and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
