Judy K. Swope

DRESDEN: Judy K. Swope, 73, of Dresden, Ohio died Thursday afternoon, January 31, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.

Born September 19, 1939 in Dresden she was a daughter of the late J. W. and Bonnie Jean (Gist) Longaberger and was a 1957 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School. She retired in 2009 from the Public Relations Department of the Longaberger Company. Judy was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed all types of sports. Her greatest enjoyment was being with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Shelly (Brent) Weisend and Lori (Keith) Cody, both of Dresden; three sons, Michael (Lisa) Swope of Omaha, Nebraska, Russell (Mindy) Swope of Castlerock, Colorado and Dale (Linette) Swope of Nashport, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren, Trevor and Jana Cody, Derek (Jenna) and Sean Weisend, Ian, Andy, Alaina and Evan Swope, Ryan and Aaron Swope, Kevin, Kyle and Brady Swope; four sisters, Wendy (Bob) Little, Mary Ann (Wendell) McCafferty, Ginny Lou Wilcox, and Carmen (Ron) Fortney; five brothers, Jerry (Donna) Longaberger, Larry Longaberger, Rich (JoAnne) Longaberger, Gary (Lynn) Longaberger and Jeff (Jane) Longaberger; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jan L. Swope whom she married August 17, 1957 and who died August 3, 1993; a grandson, Nicholas Weisend; a sister, Genevieve Hard and a brother, David Longaberger.

Judy's family is very grateful for the care, the compassion and the friendship extended to Judy by the excellent staff of Primrose Retirement Community of Zanesville.

Calling hours will be 2pm to 5pm Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.

Calling hours will also be for 1 hour prior to the service, which will be at 11:00am Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Dresden United Methodist Church, 1014 Main Street, Dresden with the Rev. Greg Inboden officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.
