Kenneth W. Roe

NEWCOMERSTOWN: Kenneth W. Roe, age 51, of Newcomerstown passed away on September 29 in the Hospice room at Union Hospital, with his family by his side.

He was born on April 21, 1961 to the late Albert and Rheadon "Donnie" (Miller) Roe, who survives. He was a 1979 graduate of Newcomerstown High School. Ken was employed as a meat cutter at Thompson's IGA and at Tilton's Custom Kill prior to his stroke in 1999. Ken was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, he always enjoyed the outdoors. He had quite a sense of humor and always loved pulling a practical joke on someone. He had a big heart and was a very generous person. So generous in fact, that in his death, Ken donated his eyes so as to help someone with the gift of sight. He now walks with the Lord after being baptized on April 20, 2012 at the Hospice House in New Philadelphia. He was also a member of the Perry Chapel Hill Baptist Church.

Ken was preceded in death by his father, Albert C. Roe in November 2001; his brother, Jeffrey W. Roe in May 2008; and by his grandparents, Forrest and Abi Roe and James and Dorothy Miller.

He is survived by his mother, Rheadon W. "Donnie" Roe of New Philadelphia; his sisters, Myra (Mike) Griffiths of Lancaster, PA, and Rhonda McCormick of Port Washington; nephews, Matthew Griffiths of Lancaster, PA, and Ross McCormick of New Mexico, nieces, Mallory Griffiths of Lancaster, PA, Roe Michael Swinehart of Newcomerstown, and Alex Waller of Port Washington; a great-niece, Korrall Van-Rae Swinehart, great-nephew, Walker Jeffery-Blair Swinehart of Newcomerstown; and his beloved dog, "Cedar."

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or to Perry Chapel Hill Baptist Church 19476 Township Rd 380, Warsaw, OH 43844 for the "teen-age van fund."

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Addy Funeral Home, with Dave Fowls of Perry Chapel Hill Baptist Church and Brian Flood of Hospice officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 3 from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Union Hospital and Hospice for their care during Ken's illness. Online condolences may be made at www.addyfuneralhome.com
