Lewis O. Darr

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA: Lewis "Lou" Owen Darr 70, of Stafford County passed away on Friday, July 13, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Darr was born April 15, 1942 to Rudy Owen and Mary Isabelle (Elliott) Darr in Warsaw, Ohio. He was a 1961 graduate of Roscoe High School, Roscoe, Ohio. He was a Vietnam veteran, first in the Air Force and then in the Army, having retired in May 1982. Following his military retirement he worked for GE Systems in Rockville, Maryland. In October 1984 he returned to work with the federal government and retired in May 2004.

Mr. Darr married Glenda Curnutt on November 28, 1963 in Omaha, Nebraska. They had two sons. He married Virginia "Ginny" Davis on November 27, 1982 in Lake Crystal, Minnesota. They had one daughter.

After his retirement, Mr. Darr enjoyed traveling around the country seeing new places and visiting friends along the way. He looked forward to taking Ginny back to some of the places he had seen once she retired. He enjoyed working in his yard and feeding his birds and the occasional squirrel.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Ginny; daughter, Rhonda (and Kyle) Downes of Stafford County; sons, Wayne (and Olga) Darr of Stafford and Daryl (and Gail) Darr of West Memphis, Arkansas; two grandsons, Dylan Darr and Liam Downes; father and mother in law, Michael and Laurel Davis of Lake Crystal, Minnesota; sisters and brothers in law, Katherine and Kevin Christenson of Hanska, Minn., Jeffery and Christie Davis of Lake Crystal Minn. and Deloris Darr of Gainesville, Fla.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Darr was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy Darr and Mary Darr Newell; step father, Robert Newell; brothers, Clarence and Kenneth Darr and several aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford. A service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 20 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in Quantico National Cemetery.
