Nivarde S. Hafner

COSHOCTON: Nivarde S. Hafner, age 93, a 45 year resident of Coshocton, Ohio, passed away at Windsorwood Place on Sunday, March 18, 2012.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 5, 1919, the daughter of the late William J. and Rhea (Harney) Smith. Nivarde graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor's degree in Education, and studied Library Science at Ashland University. Nivarde was a librarian at Ridgewood High School, Indian River Juvenile Correctional, and a substitute teacher and tutor in Coshocton after her retirement. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Master Gardeners of Coshocton, Catholic Women's Club, Friends of the Library, and served on the board of directors for the YWCA, and Friends of the Animal Shelter. On December 27, 1941 she married Robert Hafner, who preceded her in death in 2002.

Nivarde is survived by her four children, William Hafner of Coshocton, Ohio, Richard (Mary) Hafner of Palo Alto, California, Andrea Hafner of Marion, Ohio, and Malene (Rick) Faris of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will held Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Father William Hritsko officiating. An online memorial can be viewed at www.given-dawsonfuneralhome.com.
