Nondis Aral Norman Bown Obituary
Nondis Aral Norman Bown

COSHOCTON: Nondis Aral Norman Bown, 92, died Tuesday February 4, 2014 in Coshocton. She was born at the "Old Stone House" in Keene Township on January 6, 1922, the daughter of the late Lowry and Beulah (Burrell) Norman.

Nondis graduated from Keene High School in 1939, where she loved to play basketball with Margaret Ross as her coach. She attended Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Zanesville and worked in San Diego, Phoenix, Myrtle Beach, and Albuquerque in physicians' offices. In 1940 she married Rodney Bown, who preceded her in death in 1991.

Nondis enjoyed volunteering at the San Diego Naval Hospital in the 60's, especially when the sailors came in, who had been held captive aboard their ship, The Pueblo. In the 70's, Nondis found a need for adult family group of alcoholics. Since Coshocton had no such group she started a local Al-Anon. Because of her efforts hundreds have been helped. Nondis was a Big Band fan, belonging to a cruise club in San Diego featuring big bands. She met Rodney at Lake Park Pavilion in Coshocton where a big band was playing.

Nondis is survived by two sons, David (Lee) Bown of Coshocton, and John (Lynn) Bown of San Diego; one grandson, Troy Bown; one granddaughter, Krista Bown; four great grandchildren, Jason, Jeremey, Melissa, and Joey; and one great-great granddaughter, Caleigha; sister-in-law, Jane Kitchens; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held at Given-Dawson Funeral Home on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11:00am with Reverend Jonathan Carlisle officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at Given-Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 5-9pm and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
