S. Eugene Flinn

COSHOCTON: S. Eugene Flinn, 76, of Coshocton, Ohio, passed away at Autumn Health Care on Saturday, March 9, 2013.

He was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on April 29, 1936, the son of the late Albert and Nellie (Hupp) Flinn. Gene Joined The United States Navy in 1953 and served his country for four years. He was a member of the Coshocton Christian Tabernacle, and VFW #1330. Gene was an avid coon hunter, and enjoyed horseback riding, and training horses and dogs. He worked for Fairmont Foods in Parkersburg, West Virginia and Coshocton, Ohio for several years before working for Kroger Foods in Newark, Ohio, and Murfreesboro, Tennessee, from where he retired after 18 years of service. On January 12, 1974 he married Shirley A. Flinn, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by his four children, David (Debbie) Flinn of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Rebecca (Mark) Midcap of Waverly, West Virginia, Jennifer (Joe) Barfield of Tallapoosa, Georgia, and Jamie (Penny) Hahn of Coshocton; ten grandchildren, Joe, Rich, Michael, Nick, Derick, Lacey, Amber, Rachel, Anna, and Shelby; 12 great grandchildren; one brother, Carl (Cathy) Flinn; and two sisters, Hazel (Bob) Smith, and Alice Cole.

In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Aslanides; five brothers, Albert, Les, Ira, Leroy, and Charles Flinn; and four sisters, Frances Hornbeck, Irene Hornbeck, Nettie Gingrich, and an infant sister.

Calling hours will be held at Given-Dawson Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 5-8pm, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Funeral services will be held at Coshocton Christian Tabernacle on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 1:00pm with Pastor Jason Diaz and Pastor C.E. Sonny Easterday officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery where the Coshocton County Veterans Council will perform military honors.
