Mary Frances Gedeon

GREENVILLE, PA: Mary Frances Gedeon, age 95, of 9 N. Penn Ave., formerly of Sheakleyville, passed away at 11:22 PM Friday 3-7-14 in UPMC Horizon, Greenville.

She was born in Coshocton, OH on December 17, 1918 to Charles and Mary (Martter) Heisser. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Coshocton, OH, and after graduation and the start of WWII, she worked for Curtiss-Wright Corp., Columbus, OH, working as a laborer in their Aircraft Factory. In 1945 she married Vincent Patrick Quill whom would pass away in 1948 due to consequences related to his service in the South Pacific Theater during WWII. After her husbands passing she worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Coshocton, and in 1953 she married John William Gedeon, and they resided in Sheakleyville, where she sold Avon products from her home and had worked for many years in the cafeteria of Commodore Perry School. John passed away in 1995.

A devoutly religious women all her life, she was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville, and could be seen most recent years singing with the church resurrection choir. She was a volunteer at the Good Shepard Center, Greenville, and was a member of the Friendly Club, and the Mary Jane Rebecca Lodge. She was a familiar figure in the Sheakleyville Community and had helped for many years with the Sheakleyville V.F.D. annual Homecoming celebration.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. James Quill and his wife, Clara of Onalaska, WI and Joseph Gedeon of Glendale, CA, a daughter, Ann Porter and her husband, William of Alison Park, PA; and two grandchildren, Timothy Porter and Michael Porter, also of Alison Park; a sister-in-law, Irene Gedeon of Greenville; and a special caregiver, Kim Taylor of Transfer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and two brothers, Edward and Charles Heisser.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday 3-11-14 in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville, with Msgr. Andrew H. Karg as celebrant. Arrangements by Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville. Burial with committal will be in St. Michael Cemetery.
