George William (Bill) Scroggins, Jr. of Montgomery, Texas, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013. He was 65 years old. Bill was born in Palestine, Texas, to G.W. Scroggins, Sr. and Anne Henderson on May 18, 1947. He graduated from Richfield High School in Waco, Texas, in May of 1966. During his senior year at Richfield, he met his future wife, Janie Sue Stone, and they were married on August 4, 1967. Bill served in the United States Navy from March, 1968, to December, 1971, making two tours to Vietnam. Bill and Janie settled in Houston, Texas, where he began working for Turner, Collie and Braden engineering firm, advancing from print room helper to office manager. In 1987 Bill was hired by the City of Houston Airport System as an assistant superintendent and retired from the city as a superintendent after a 19-year career.
Bill loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, yardwork and he loved his family and his church family. He was ordained as a deacon at Fairbanks Baptist Church in Houston and continued to serve as a deacon when the family moved to Montgomery in 1994 and joined First Baptist Church Montgomery.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister-in-law Sherrie Stone Kennon and brother-in-law Stephen Alvin Stone. He will be remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 45 years, his sons James Cory and Joshua Cody, his in-laws Alvin and Margaret Stone, his sister-in-law Susan Ganther, as well as a host of family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 20850 Eva Street, Montgomery, TX 77356. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 25, at First Baptist Church, 20423 Eva Street, Montgomery, TX 77356. For those who desire, memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
