ROBERT LEE ~ Stanley Clay Austin­­, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Lynn Austin and daughter, Janet Lei Austin. Stanley is survived by two sisters, Eva Ruth Taylor of Marshfield, Missouri and Delia Jane Austin of Fort Worth, Texas. He is also survived by his devoted friend of 11 years, Judy Evans of Panorama Village, Texas.

Gardening and Oil Painting were his lifelong hobbies. Stanley was President Emeritus of the Texas Master Gardener Association - Montgomery County. He cultivated over 250 plant varieties in his greenhouse, floral and vegetable gardens. Numbered reproductions of his original oil paintings on canvas had been sold to individuals and auctioned at charitable events. He held copyrights to six (6) original Santa Claus portraits/scenes.

The son of the late Isham M. Austin, Sr. and Angie Delila Byrd, Stanley was born and reared on the Austin Ranch near Robert Lee, Texas. Stanley graduated from Angelo State University and later pursued advanced training in marketing at Western Michigan University, Purdue University, the Sterling Institute, and the University of Chicago. The Quaker Oats Company offered Stanley a Marketing Specialist position while searching for new recruits on the college campus. During the Korean War, The Quaker Oats Company issued him a military service leave of absence after the U. S. Naval Air Force assigned him to active duty. He served in the Far East as a courier aboard a P2V patrol bomber squadron and was awarded the China Service Medal after he completed combat duty in the Taiwan Straits.

After Stanley's return from military service, he resumed his employment and held a variety of assignments in corporate sales and marketing within The Quaker Oats Company. In 1979, he was appointed to a sales manager position, southwest region, Houston. He retired in 1996 after 42 years employment at The Quaker Oats Company (1954-1996) and served on The Quaker Oats Company Advisory Board until 2000.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Sanco Cemetery in Robert Lee, Texas. Arrangements will be conducted by Shaffer Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Montgomery County Master Gardener Association, 9020 FM 1484, Conroe, Texas, 77303, to establish a Memory Garden Maintenance and Improvement Fund in memory of Stanley Austin would be appreciated.
