LAWSON, Graham Garfield passed away May 1, 2013 at Westminster House in Surrey, BC, just before his 91st birthday. Graham was born May 16, 1922 in the Village of Long Branch (now part of Toronto), Ontario. Graham was the fourth son born to Frances "Frank" Cownie Henry Lawson of Dundee, Scotland and Hazel Smith of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. After serving in the Royal Canadian Navy, Graham married the love of his life, Joan Winnifred Cooke of Toronto, on September 7, 1946. They enjoyed life together for almost 55 years before his sweetheart died on July 2, 2001. Joan always called her husband "Bud," the nickname his Dad had given him. Bud started his 37 year career with The Prudential Life Insurance Company in Toronto. He had various sales and management positions that took the family to St. Catharines, Burlington, Whitby, and Oshawa, Ontario. In 1967 he accepted the management responsibility for the Prudential office in Victoria. In British Columbia they lived in Victoria, Brentwood Bay, and Nanaimo. Graham enjoyed golfing, their home, gardening, travelling, being with friends, and above all, his family. Graham's brothers Albert Cecil, Frank Cownie, and Neil Cameron, preceded him in death. He is survived by his son Wayne (Carol) Lawson of Phoenix AZ, daughters Nancy (David) Temple of Vancouver BC, Karen York of White Rock BC, and Deanna (Harry) Winters of New Cumberland PA. Graham was also blessed with grandchildren Theressa, Robert, Jennifer, Andrea (Sebastien), Ryan (Samantha), Aaron (deceased), Craig (Emily), Jarrod (Angie) and Justin (Erin), as well as eight great grandchildren. Dad gave us so many special memories filled with lots of love and laughter. Our family truly appreciated all the genuine care from the staff at Westminster House. A memorial service to celebrate this wonderful man will be held on Saturday, July 27 at 12:00 pm at Brechin United Church, 1998 Estevan Rd., Nanaimo, followed by dessert and coffee. Those wishing to attend the burial, will be welcome at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, 2347 Cedar Rd., Cedar, at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Alzheimer Society of BC, 300-828 West 8th Ave., Vancouver, BC V5Z 1E2, or www.alzheimerbc.org
