Bernie Alfred Dechnik
AGE: 78 • Voorhees
Bernie Alfred Dechnik, age 78, passed on at Wiley Mission on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012. Born June 22, 1934 in Camden, NJ, he was raised there, met & married his beloved wife Mary, had 2 children, and in the early 70's moved to Voorhees, NJ, where he singled handedly built his own home. He worked as a Naval Engineer for the Philadelphia Navy Yard for many years, where he was a highly valued & respected employee, and traveled often. He also served in the US Army as a Veteran of the Korean War. His largest contribution in life though, was as a devoted & loyal husband, father, grandfather, nephew, uncle & friend. He had a kind & generous heart & was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. It also bears noting that he could fix absolutely anything. He is survived by his daughter Diane, his granddaughter, Shaylyn, grandson Aaron & numerous loving nieces and nephews. Bernie was preceded in death by his son Michael, his wife Mary, his sister, Helen & his grandson Miles.

My heartfelt condolences to the family. I know my dad, Bob Dick, was so very happy to reconnect with Bernie albeit not as long as he'd hoped for. I'm grateful for having met him and spending a day together this past year. With sincere sympathy, Lisa

Grief can be so hard during the holidays, but our special memories help us cope. So thankful that I had a chance to reconnect with my boyhood friend and neighbor - remembering all our times together, being in his wedding, and having him meet my wife Royce was a special time for us. We are very thankful that we got to spend these last few years together talking about Camden in the good "ole" days and then celebrating our friendship. We were blessed to spend Bernie's last few days together and will cherish the memories forever. Diane our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. God Bless
