Dionisio Garcia Aponte, of Pemberton, age 83 years, passed away June 20, 2013. He was born January 18, 1930 in Caba Rojo, Puerto Rico and was the oldest of 10 children. Kiro, as he was affectionately called by those who loved and knew him best, joined the Army
at 18 years old and served his country honorably for 20 years with 1 tour in Korea and 3 tours in Vietnam. During that time he was stationed in Salzburg, Austria where he met and married the Love of his life, Annie Marie. They were married 54 wonderful years. He worked tirelessly for the least fortunate among us by evidence of his second career of 25 years working at The New Lisbon Developmental Center as a Coordinator that championed the cause of integrating the developmentally challenged into everyday society. Kiro was a member of St. Ann's Church, VFW
Post # 10065, Pemberton and the DAV Chapter # 27. He was always quick with a joke and was an inspiration to living life with joy and showing affection to those he loved with his generosity. He loved traveling, gardening and was an avid Sports fan especially the Phillies and was always ready for a game of dominos.
He was preceded in death by his wife Annie Marie in 2010, children Linda and Alfredo and sibling Candita. Beloved father of Karl Aponte & wife Liz, Joseph Aponte & wife Claudia, Patricia, Christina, Michael & wife Alexandra & Maria Copestick & husband David. Dear brother of Clotilde, Alfredo, Haydee, Marta, Milagros, Elsa, Edwin & Minerva and Dear Grandfather of Alexis, Arielle, Lauren (Taylor), Courtney, Julia, Deanna (Keith), Alex, Andrea, Erin, Devon & Morgan.
Relatives and friends of Dionisio's family are invited to his viewing and visitation 9:00 to 10:30 AM Wednesday morning at The Lankenau Funeral Home, 31 Elizabeth St., Pemberton Borough. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday at St. Ann's Church, 22A Trenton Road, Browns Mills. Interment with military honors will be in BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery 350 Provinceline Road, Arneytown, North Hanover Twp. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post # 10065, Pemberton in his name.
