James E. "Jim" Spates, age 76, of the Erial section of Gloucester Twp., passed away peacefully at home after his long battle with cancer on May 2. Dearly beloved husband of Barbara "Becky" (nee Bredbeck) for 28 years and father of two loving children; daughter, Judith Ann (Gregory) Petrongolo of Swedesboro and son Dr. Matthew Spates of CT. Jim is survived by 2 grandchildren, Nicholas Martino of Clementon and Alexis Martino (fiance' Nicholas Basquez) of Wenonah, brothers Bill of VA, Bobby of FL and sisters Louise Milne and Jeanette Boccabella, both of NY.

Jim was active in St. Rose of Lima Church in Haddon Hts. and Sacred Heart Church in Camden. He was also a Councilman in Haddon Heights in the 1970's, was employed by Fidelity Bank of Phila. prior to his employment of over 30 yrs. at the CC Park Commission.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Monday, May 6th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at THE FUNERAL MANOR, 1585 Hider Lane, Gloucester Twp., NJ. A Christian Burial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 7 at 10:00 AM at the SICKLERVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 406 Church Rd., Sicklerville, NJ. Interment Camden County Veterans' Cemetery,Harleigh, Camden, NJ. The family requests donations be given in Jim's name to Raising Haiti, 52 Blessville Rd., Lison, CT 06351.
