Joseph Patrick "Pat" McShane, Jr., age 86, died peacefully on February 11, 2014. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Rose. Born October 28, 1927, Pat was the oldest of five children born to Joseph P. and Emily McShane. He is survived by eight children: J. Patrick III (Judith), Michael (Sharon), Maryellen Bednarski (Joseph), Timothy(Susan), Teresa Mascoli (James), Daniel (MaryAnn), David (Eurhi) and Frank (Vanessa), 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Richard (Rita), and sisters Marylee Amato (James) and Eleanor Hentschel (Robert). He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack.
Pat graduated Camden Catholic High School in 1945. He proudly served in the Navy from October 1945 to October 1948. He married Rose in 1950, and worked for almost forty years for Hutchinson Plumbing. He was a member of the Audubon Civil Defense Heavy Rescue Squad, Knights of Columbus, was a Scout leader, and was an usher at Holy Maternity and then St. Rose Parish. He taught plumbing at night at Camden County Vocational/ Technical School. He continued a life of service after "retiring" to Cambria County Pennsylvania in 1993 and then moving to Lebanon, Pa. in 1999. He volunteered at the Lebanon V.A. hospital chapel, where he faithfully served the priest and at mass, even on New Year's Day, 2014. It was at his beloved VA hospital that he died in hospice care. He and Rose led exemplary lives of devotion to country, faith in the Blessed Mother, and most importantly, to family. He was skilled as a carpenter and handyman, making many cherished items for his children and grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend his viewing on Sunday evening, February 16 from 5 to 8 PM and again Monday morning, February 17 from 9 to 10:15 AM at the HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 9 White Horse Pike, Haddon Heights, NJ, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 AM at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, 4th Ave. and Kings Hwy., Haddon Heights, NJ. Interment with military honors will follow at Cavalry Cemetery, Cherry Hill, NJ.
