Raymond V. Ellis, 78, a retired Permanent Deacon for the Diocese of Camden, NJ died March 23, 2013 at his home in Merchantville, NJ. Born and raised in Middletown, NY, he was a graduate of Philadelphia College and the American Institute of Banking. He was the former president of Clover Federal Savings & Loan in Pennsauken and following his retirement from banking he worked as a stagehand for Local #8 IATSE Philadelphia. Ray was a graduate of the first Diaconate class for the Diocese of Camden and was ordained a Permanent Deacon on October 4, 1976. He served the parishes of St. Joseph's Pro Cathedral Camden, St. Peter Church Merchantville, and St. Stephen's Church Pennsauken before retiring. He was also a member of St. Peter's Knights of Columbus #6735 and a US Army
veteran He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He especially loved trips to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Joan (nee LeClair); daughters Joanna and Mary (Kristopher) Hall; grandchildren Ethan and Audrey Hall; a brother Richard Ellis; and a sister Jean D. Martin.
Religious, relatives, and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass Tuesday morning 10:00 AM in St. Stephen's Church 6306 Browning Rd. Pennsauken, NJ. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery Bronx, NY.
