Thomas Eugene McCorkell

Thomas Eugene McCorkell of Mount Laurel, age 73 years, passed away December 31, 2012 at Virtua Hospital, Mount Holly. He was a native of Rutherford, NJ. After graduation he joined the US Navy
and made it his career. Tom was proud to be a Chief Petty Officer in his early career. He graduated from the University of Washington
in 1967 with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and then went on to Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport ,RI graduating # 2 in his Class. He continued on to rise to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was a Veteran of Vietnam and served on various ships during the Vietnam War
. Tom went on to Nuclear Power School for ships and served in the Nuclear Power Program in the Navy. Tom Served on the USS Ingraham, USS Truxton, Pre com of the USS Nimitz and the USS South Carolina and was Comcrudeslant. He also was a member of the Navy League and retired in 1978. He and his wife and family moved to Mount Laurel in 1978 and he went to work for Stone & Webster Engineering Firm and then Lockheed Martin, Moorestown. He was a Docent on the Battleship New Jersey and then went on to become the Docent Supervisor for 6&1/2 years. Tom was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Moorestown where he was mission coordinator for many years. He was noted for his mission work and was a volunteer for Greentree. Tom lived his faith living the Beatitude. (Matthew, Chapter 5, vs. 3-11). He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother & friend.
Beloved husband of Jane McCorkell for 50 years, dear Father of Barbara McCorkell of Mount Laurel, Stephen McCorkell & wife Lisa of Schuylerville, NY, John McCorkell of Feasterville, PA and Thomas W. McCorkell & wife Amy of Collegeville, PA, devoted grandfather of Abigail, Charles and John David McCorkell and brother of Peter McCorkell & wife Candice of Lafayette, CA.
Relatives and friends of Thomas's family are invited to his viewing and visitation 6:00 to 9 :00PM Thursday evening January 3rd at The Moorestown Memorial Home, 334 Chester Ave., Moorestown. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 AM Friday January 4th, 2013 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 42 W. Main St., Moorestown. Interment BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Arneytown, North Hanover Twp., NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Missionaries of the Poor, Food for the Poor, Swords to Plow Share or the Battleship, New Jersey.
