John Mendel "Johnnie Mendell", on January 16, 2016, of Williamstown, born and raised in South Philadelphia. Age 80. Beloved husband of Mary Lopez for 39 years. Devoted father of Sharon Sandone (Nicholas), Danielle Mendel (Jay), and John Eric Mendel. Loving pop-pop of 3 and great-grandfather of 2. Dear brother of Barbara Mendel. Music was Johnnie's life. He was a singer, songwriter, and entertainer. Johnnie was a former Columbia Records artist and a writer for the Philadelphia Mummers String Band. He also hosted the TV show "Johnnie Mendell Presents..." and toured with his band, "Johnnie Mendell with Aura". Johnnie always enjoyed trips to North Wildwood. There will be a viewing from 3:45 to 5:45pm on Thursday at St. Charles Borromeo RC Church, 176 Stagecoach Road, Sicklerville, NJ. Funeral Mass at 6pm. Interment private at the request of the family. I knew John back in 1975 when I entered a talent contest and won. I also appeared on his television show 3 times and went to his home numerous times for rehearsals. He was a warm caring guy who loved people and music. I last saw John about 4 years ago at a Diner in Glouster County. He was as warm and friendly as ever. He will be missed.

Dear Mary and John Eric,
Tony and I are so very sorry for your loss. It's still hard to believe we won't see John anymore. He was a great man and he always had a smile on his face, even when he wasn't feeling well. We always had a nice time when we all got together. We will miss him tremendously when we all get together for dinner or when we join you wherever John Eric's band is playing. Mary, I remember when you met John and how happy he made you. It was always so nice seeing how happy you were with him. You have been my life long friend and you know I will always be here for you and John Eric. John Eric, whenever we were out to dinner with your mom and dad, your dad always talked about you and he was very, very proud of you. We will all miss him so much.

Dad,
I'll always remember the fun we had when I was a little girl. I'll never forget you pulling Sharon & me on the sled to 7-11 to get ice cream in a snow storm and me letting the bag drag on the snow to keep it cold. You were a little upset that we had to go back & find the ice cream because it fell out of the bottom of the wet bag. I loved sharing your music with you, listening to you & mom write songs together & your sense of humor. I miss watching Elvis & the Sunday afternoon old time movies. As an adult, you respected & supported my decisions and loved me unconditionally. I love you & miss you so much!
