He was a champion of the underdog. If he saw someone being bullied he would jump right in fists flying.

Steve lived across the hall from me in the barracks at Offutt Air Force Base. He was the best man at my wedding in the hood in North Omaha, NE in 1984. A better friend you could not find

Steve and I were roommates in the USAF, a talented, witty person that I'm proud to have served and lived with. May you be creating beautiful art in the heavens my old friend.

I knew Steve when both of us were in the U.S. Air Force back in the late 70's. His mannerisms were so calm cool and inspiring to me at that age. Any story I relate to anyone when remembering our time together, I never miss commenting on Steve's art, to this day I have a poster he made about our living quarters (dorm rooms) at that time known as the Animal house. Even tho I haven't been around Steve in 38 years, to get this news brings me sorrow and my thought go out to his family and all that knew him.

I was sad to learn of Steve's health struggles and his recent death. Please accept my condolences and love in the aftermath. Steve was a Waltham, MA, high school classmate and friend; kind and big-hearted, witty and wise. His artistic talents were an inspiration to everyone in his circle and he will be missed. Warm wishes to his family and his closest friends. Godspeed, Joanie (Saltzberg) Virgil, WHS, 1972

Dear Steve,
Thank You for your inspiration and friendship. You inspired me to be an artist and musician, I regret that we didn't see each other for so many years and then so suddenly you're gone. Walk with God my friend until we meet again someday.
Rest in Peace my Brother

Steve was a great human being. He always had a smile on his face and was the first to help anyone. I still have my "Wecome Aboard" framed T Bird picture he did. I will always think of him when I see this picture.

Please accept my deepest sympathies in your time of sorrow. I met Steve over 20 years ago when he was an illustrator with the USAF Thunderbirds. A gifted artist and wonderful human being, he'd do anything for his team mates and wouldn't hesitate to give you the shirt off his back. God bless you, Steve.
