Anne Catherine (McDonald) Bowlan, 93, of Downingtown, died Saturday, September 7, 2013 at St. Martha Manor. She was the wife of the late Frederic James Bowlan. Born in New Haven, CT she was the daughter of the late Raymond A. McDonald and the late Catherine King McDonald.
Anne served her country as a Navy Lieutenant during WWII. She was stationed in Boston, MA as a Communication Watch Officer. She was a graduate of Rhode Island College of Education. While raising eight children, she also taught Special Education in the Berlin Township School District. After retiring, Anne volunteered for The Marie Fleche Memorial Library in Berlin, NJ. Anne also volunteered in two capacities as a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Berlin, NJ: the St. Vincent de Paul Society, a group dear to her heart, and as a lector at masses. After 47 years in Berlin, NJ, she lived at Bellingham Retirement Community in West Chester, from 2004 - 2010. Anne moved back to the area in December, 2012 where she resided at Villa St. Martha, Downingtown. She is survived by her children: Frederic (Marion), Michael (Lillian), David (Kate), Jeanne (Kathleen Casey), Stephen Lopez-Bowlan (Ellie), Susan (Frederick) Kotalik, and Gregory; her grandchildren: Audry Williams, Kim (Leonard) Alvarado, Matthew (Alison) Bowlan, Jennifer Bowlan, Heather and Emily Bowlan, Kelley and Zachary Bowlan, and Sean and Sydney Kotalik; her great-grandchildren: Leonard, Carmen, and Scarlett Alvarado, Simon Bowlan, Sienna Bowlan; and her nephews: Christopher, Morgan and Mark Dodd. She was preceded in death by her daughter Anne Williams; and son-in-law, Sullivan Williams.
Relatives and Friends are invited to her Funeral Mass at 11 AM on Saturday, Sept. 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 338 Manor Ave., Downingtown, PA. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 178 W.
