Donald (Don) S. Coffey, 87, retired electrical contractor of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 10, 2013. Born on April 18, 1926 in Audubon, New Jersey to Luther and Bertha Coffey, Don graduated as valedictorian from Audubon High School in 1943 and received a partial scholarship to Cornell University to pursue electrical engineering. In 1944, he joined the Air Force as an airplane mechanic.
Donald was a long time resident of South Jersey, living in Cherry Hill until 1995. In 1957, he started a thriving commercial electrical contracting business under the name Coffey & Coyle Electrical Contractors, Inc. and conducted that business until Michael Coyle's retirement in 1982. He then formed Coffey Electrical Contractors, Inc. and ran that business until his retirement in 1995. For the last 18 years, he was a resident of Las Vegas, NV.
Donald was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 44 years, Margaret B. Coffey and son, Gregory M. Coffey. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Renate H. Coffey; brother Robert (Patricia) Coffey; 3 children, Donna (Grant) Frazier, Thomas (Maria) Coffey, and Barbara (Thomas) Morton and daughter-in-law, Kathy (Mayfield) Coffey; 3 stepchildren, Violet Lofsteadt, David and Thomas Schwarz; grandchildren, Eric Coffey, Brian Coffey, Christine Frazier, Alicia (Roger) Rengert, Matthew Frazier, and Thomas J. Morton, along with 5 step-grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Don's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16th at Holy Eucharist Parish, 334 Kresson Road, Cherry Hill, NJ. A private Inurnment Service will be held at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, NV.
