AGE: 86 • Mt. Ephraim
Pauline K. Foster (nèe Pauline Elinore Knehr), age 86, died peacefully at home in Mt. Ephraim on March 20, 2013, surrounded by her loving caregivers. Born in Camden, NJ on August 7, 1926, Pauline was the only child of Paul and Edna (nèe MacIntyre) Knehr. In 1944 she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, where she met her late husband, Wilbur Foster. They married on January 3, 1948, and their love affair continued for over six decades. She was with Wil when he passed away at home on October 21, 2010. The Fosters were blessed with three children, Paul (Nancy) of Haddon Heights, Kristine of Mt. Ephraim, and Wilbur, Jr. (Melissa) of New York City and Garrison, NY, and three grandchildren, Matthew, Paul and Julia. Over the last five years of her life Pauline lived with and was attended by her loving and devoted aide, Denise.
Mrs. Foster worked as a service representative for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company (now part of Verizon) for almost twenty-five years, starting in the late 1940's and, after a hiatus to raise her family, resuming in 1965 and concluding when she retired in 1985. She was a Life Member of the Telecom Pioneers. For more than fifty years she was a congregant of the Ascension Lutheran Church in Haddon Heights, where she served in many capacities over the years. She was also active in Audubon Young at Heart, and served for many years with the Interfaith Caregivers. Mrs. Foster was a thoughtful, articulate, engaging, caring, and lovely person. A skillful and eager conversationalist, she enjoyed meeting and being with people, and listened as well as she talked. She was a joy to be with. She enjoyed smiling and laughing, and brought smiles and laughter to others with her wonderful sense of humor. She loved dancing, whether in USO shows during WWII or ballroom dancing with Wil in retirement. She was a great friend, a bighearted person who was always there for anyone who needed her company, her insight, her compassion. She was strong and resilient, with an irrepressible spirit and faith that sustained her against adversity. She was loving and devoted toward her family, most notably Wil, with whom she shared sixty-two years of marriage.
A celebration of the life of Pauline K. Foster will be held at 12 noon on April 27, 2013, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 534 Fourth Avenue (Fourth and Highland Avenues), Haddon Heights, NJ 08035. All are invited to attend a reception in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mrs. Foster to the Ascension Lutheran Church in Haddon Heights or to Delaware Valley Bischon Rescue in Cinnaminson.
