Gilbert O. Leyendecker

AGE: 84 • Deptford

Gilbert O. Leyendecker, age 84, a long time resident of Deptford, NJ., passed away Jan. 29, 2014. Gilbert was born and raised in Texas, moving to New Jersey at the time of his enlistment.

He was a Korean War Veteran, serving active duty from 1951-1953, and in the Army Reserve 1953-1957. He co-owned/operated Winslow Auto Body located in Tansboro for 25 years, before retiring at age 65. He was a Life Member of Stetser-Lamartine American Legion Post #281 in Chews Landing, and a former member of the Polish American Citizens Club of Oaklyn, NJ. Gilbert enjoyed fishing and watching sporting events on TV from his chair at home.

Gilbert was the beloved husband of the late Helen E. Leyendecker (nee Kluczynski); Loving father of Glenn A. Leyendecker (Josette) of Greenwood, DE and Shirley H. Kalla of Clayton, NJ; Proud grandfather of Alexander L. Leyendecker whom he cherished; and dear brother of Margaret Clew of San Antonio, TX, Nora Kennedy of Cisco, TX, and the late Horace, Alice, Victor, James and John.

Viewing will be Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 9:30-11:30 AM at Earle Funeral Home, 122 W. Church St., Blackwood, NJ 08012 where military honors will begin at 11:30 AM. Interment at Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to Stetser-Lamartine American Legion Post #281, 2101 Chews Landing Rd., Blackwood, NJ 08012.
