AGE: 85 • Collingswood
Muriel Elizabeth Thomas, 85, died on April 2, 2014. Her daughter, Beverly, was by her side. Muriel was born on September 26, 1928 in Fairview, NJ to Amos and Rina Heron. The family moved to Renfrew, Scotland, where she spent her childhood and teenage years. She lived there through WW II and told her daughters and husband, many interesting stories about the war. Although she was a US citizen, she always felt in her heart that Scotland was her true home. Muriel met her husband, Harry Thomas while working as a secretary at the John Wanamaker department store in downtown Philadelphia. They settled in Cherry Hill, NJ and Muriel became a homemaker. She raised her two daughters, Beverly and Barbara, and provided support for her husband, a Chrysler Motors executive. Muriel was very active in the Haddon Fortnightly Club along with the Commonwealth Club, both in Haddonfield. She also enjoyed frequent visits with her daughter, Barb, in Boston, where they both shared their love of art museums, theater and classical music. Her daughter, Bev, lived nearby, and helped care for Muriel, especially in her last few years. Her interests were sewing, home decorating, gardening, reading and many other arts and crafts. She was a gracious, elegant lady who was liked by everyone she met. She did a phenomenal job of raising her two daughters and taught them, through example, to be actively compassionate and kind. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her husband, Harry, until he passed away at 73.
Muriel is survived by her two daughters, Beverly Thomas and Barbara Thomas. She will be greatly missed. Muriel knew she was loved and will always be.
Services will be private for family only.
