Robert Edward "Bob" Swanson, age 94 years, died peacefully at his home of 65 years in Oaklyn, NJ., with his devoted wife of 71 years by his side.

He was preceded in death by his infant son Thomas, adult son Robert, Jr., parents John August Swanson, Anna Marie Nelson Swanson and brother John Richard Swanson. Robert is survived by his loving wife Marie (nee Krai), Son William "Bill" Swanson, daughter Betty Swanson Cashman, her husband Dale, daughter Beverly Swanson Frank and her husband Robert. His cherished and loved grandchildren are Michael and Matthew Swanson, Kelsie, Karen and Kristin Frank and Sara Cashman.

Bob was born on Jan. 6, 1920 in Phila., PA. He grew up in Haddon Heights, NJ and attended Haddon Heights schools. After High School he worked at Campbell Soup Co. in Camden, NJ packing cans of soup. Later he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp cutting down trees during the building of the Shasta Dam in Calif. In 1938 he became an apprentice in the Sheet Metal Dept. at the NY Shipbuilding Corp. in Camden. With this he attended Camden County Vocational School and earned a certificate in pattern drafting. He joined the US Navy in 1944, was stationed on the USS Constellation and later on the USS Antietam stationed in the Pacific.

In 1947 he became a radio announcer at WCAM in Camden and later went to work at WCAU TV in Phila. and became an on camera announcer, program coordinator and associate director. He retired from CBS in 1979 as a member of the Directors Guild of America.

Bob's great love was being with his wife, children and grandchildren. In his retirement years he was a member of the Collingswood breakfast club. A foursome of himself and friends golfed on a regular basis for many years. Bob, his brother Richard and their wives enjoyed traveling together and usually made spring and fall trips to new places. In his last several years he enjoyed spending winters at his son's Florida home where he especially liked sitting in the sunniest part of the porch.

He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and formerly a member of the Oaklyn Bettlewood Little League and the Oaklyn Swim Club.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet Wednesday June 25, from 9:30 to 10:30 in the Gathering Room at St. Mark's Lutheran Church 409 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn, NJ. Memorial Services to follow at 11:00am at the Church. Interment at Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Bob's memory to St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Arrangements under the direction of the CRERAN FUNERAL HOME, Oaklyn, NJ.
