Ellen M. Robey

AGE: 85 • Medford

ELLEN M. ROBEY, (Nee Coleman) a long-time resident of Medford, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at home. She was 85 years old. Ellen was born on February 27, 1929 in Philadelphia, the daughter of John and Helen Coleman. She graduated from Hallahan High School in 1947 in Philadelphia. She met her husband, James E. Robey, in Merchantville in 1948. They married in 1950 and moved to Medford in 1956. Ellen began working in 1961 as a part-time school bus driver for Medford Township School District, and later, the Lenape Regional High School District. She was promoted to Transportation Director for the District in 1981, during a period when the system was rapidly expanding. She served in that position until her retirement in 1991. Family and friends will long remember Ellen as a devoted mother and grandmother, for her vibrant, upbeat personality, and for her infectious laughter. While her children were growing up, she reveled in the family's summer vacations in Sea Isle City. She also long enjoyed a passion for NASCAR. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, James, who passed in January of 2011, and by two brothers, James of Levittown, PA, and John of Philadelphia. She is survived by her brother, Thomas, of Cherry Hill, NJ; three children, Ellen Shrom (Ralph) of Tabernacle, James Robey (Frances) of Marlton, and Michael (Beverly) of Medford; as well as eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by her sister-in-law, Nancy Grover (Art Stengel) of Tabernacle; and her close friends, Hannah Edge of New Port Richey, FL, and Laura Johnson of Southampton, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Sunday, July 27, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM and on Monday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME, 127 Medford-Mt.
