AGE: 87 • Lumberton

Edward J. Richter, born March 1, 1926 in Merchantville, NJ, passed away August 13, 2013. He was a graduate of Merchantville High School and the University of Maine where he received his degree in Forestry. While attending school in Maine Ed met his wife to be Betty. They were married for over 60 years. Ed and Betty started their life together in Merchantville and Pennsauken, prior to moving to Lumberton, where they lived for nearly 40 years. Ed worked for Taylor, Wiseman & Taylor as a surveyor and then crew chief. He retired after 40 years of service. Soon after retirement Ed started a consulting firm with his dear friend Rod Palma that specialized in title research. Ed was a loyal member of the elks, Mount Holly Lodge for 40 years, where he was a past trustee and enjoyed many happy hours. He also was a member of the Mount Holly Moose Lodge. Ed and Betty loved to travel and enjoyed many adventures together. He also was an avid gardener, Student of New Jersey and the Civil War history. Ed loved the New Jersey Pine Barrens and combined his love for the outdoors with research on New Jersey history which included researching historic bog iron foundries in the Pine Barrens.

He was predeceased by his wife Betty. Ed is survived by his daughter Karen Richter and her husband Paul Muldoon; his son Tom and fiancé Natalie Rutherford; a grandson Tom Jr. and his mother Sandy Richter. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday August 21st from 10:30AM-1PM at the LEE FUNERAL HOME, 317 High St., Mt. Holly. There will be an Elks service at 1PM at the funeral home. A reception will immediately follow the service at the Mount holly Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Ed's name to: the Whitesbog Preservation Trust, 120-34 Whitesbog Road, Browns Mills, NJ 08015. Arrangements were made with Ed Kaelin III at the LEE FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Holly.
