DR. CHARLES J. THOMAN "Jerry" went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 17th, 2013 at his home in Mt. Laurel, NJ. He was 84 years of age. Born November 4, 1928 and raised in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Upon graduation from high school, he entered the Society of Jesus, of which he was a member for 36 yrs. He earned six academic degrees: two bachelors, three masters and a doctorate. He served as a professor of chemistry for 37 yrs. at four Universities: Scranton, Alabama (Tuscaloosa), Stephen F. Austin (Nacogdoches, TX) and the University of the Sciences (Phila., PA), at three of which he was also chairman of the chemistry dept. He authored over fifty scientific papers and played half-court basketball until his retirement at the age of 73. In retirement, he taught theology courses in the Catechists' Certificate Programs for his parish of St. Isaac Jogues, Marlton, and for the diocese of Trenton and learned to play the trombone. He is survived by his beloved wife of thirty years, Grace U. (nee Garrett) of Mt. Laurel, NJ, his son Robert Miller and his wife Sharon of Falls Church, VA, his daughter Catherine Miller of North Brunswick, NJ and his grandchildren Rebecca, Daniel and Matthew. He is also survived by his brother Donald and his wife Doris of Bel Aire, MD, his two brother-in-laws Walter Macierowski of Bethel Park, PA and Mickey Garrett and his wife Marie of Marina del Ray, CA and also eleven nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Wednesday from 9:00 - 10:00 am in the chapel at St. Isaac Jogues Church, Evesboro-Medford Road, Marlton, NJ, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hainesport, NJ. Funeral arrangements are by the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME, Medford, NJ. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family requests memorial donations to either St. Isaac Jogues Church Building Fund or to The Fr. Chiszek Prayer League, 231 N.
