James Knapp
Evansville, IN
James Silverius Knapp, age 63, of rural Evansville, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the VNA Charlier Hospice Center.
Jim was a member of St. Wendel Catholic Church, the Knights of St. John at St. Wendel and Wadesville VFW Post #6576. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from the maintenance department at Bristol Myers after 36 years of service.
Surviving Jim are his wife of 39 years, Elvira (Goedde) Knapp; three daughters, Jennifer (Ross) Vaughn and Sara (Jeffrey) Sexton, both of Evansville and Rachelle (Greg) Schowe of Broomfield, CO; his mother, Mary Lee (Rexing) Knapp of Evansville; six sisters, Linda (Ron) Burkhart of Newburgh, Jeanette (Tom) Scheller of Evansville, Diana (Irvin) Folz of Mt. Vernon, Glenda (Keith) Hayes and Darlene Keenan, both of Evansville and Sandy (Barry) Martin of Newburgh; two brothers, Allan (Mary Helen) Knapp of Evansville and Jerome (Judy) Knapp of St. Wendel and six grandchildren, Holden Hunt, Evan, Ashlyn and Cole Sexton and Makenna and Griffin Schowe.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Francis Knapp in 1977.
Funeral services will begin at 9:15 A.M. at Pierre Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, continuing with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in St. Wendel Church cemetery, where VFW Post #6576 will conduct military rites.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 4:00 P.M.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Wendel Catholic Church, 10542 W. Boonville New Harmony Road, Evansville, IN 47720, Little Sisters of the Poor, 1236 Lincoln Ave, Evansville, IN 47713 or to VNA Charlier Hospice Center, 610 E. Walnut Street, Evansville, IN 47708.
