John H. Meier

John H. Meier, 86, of St. Petersburg, Fla., passed away peacefully March 4, 2013.
Born Nov. 4, 1926, in Evansville, Ind. He moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., in 1949. A career fireman, the developer of Brookside Mobile Manor, with Don Korb, he restored the woodwork in antique cars for Dale Powers Automotive, and built In Town Mini Storage after having served in the Navy in World War II. A devoted member of Lakewood United Methodist Church and the foreman of their many projects. He and his wife enjoyed their Hobo's Motorhome Camping Club. As a member of the Second Time Arounders Marching Band he transported all of the auxiliary equipment for every performance for 24 years and traveled to Ireland with the band. John was a talented craftsman, a kind friend always willing to help everyone he knew, and a devoted father and husband. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris J. of 66 years; two daughters, Amy Beck ( Dan ) and Lisa Rice (Ray ); four grandsons, Scott and Jeffrey Beck, Jonathan Basye and Benjamin Rice, all of Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters, Venita Reininga (Alton) and Lillian Mae Gerichs (Theodore). of Evansville, Ind.; two brother-in-laws, Don Korb (Peggy), of St.Petersburg, Fla., and Harold Korb (Patti), of Clearwater; and many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
Memorial service is Saturday, March 30, 2013, 3 p.m. at Lakewood United Methodist Church 5995 9th Street S, St. Petersburg.
