Alton "Butch" Bolin, Jr.

Alton "Butch" Bolin Jr., 88, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born December 25, 1924 in Cannelton, son of the late Alton P. and Nancy Gertrude (Sturgeon) Bolin. Also preceding him in death was his wife Mary (Klueh) Bolin, son, Mark A. Bolin, sisters, Wanda Wright, Marjorie Simpson, and Joyce Scott, brothers, Kenneth, James and Ronnie Bolin, great grandson, Tyler Zoglman and son-in-laws, Michael Wirthwein and Gerald Smiley.
A U.S. Army
veteran, he served in infantry companies 104,102, and 575 of the 11th armored division, 3rd Army, earning 3 bronze stars
and American campaign medals under General Patton. He was a lifelong member of V.F.W
. Post #2939. Butch enjoyed IU basketball, fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters; Marcia Wirthwein, Karen Smiley, Judith Beumel (Alex) , Rebecca Paulin; son, Bryant Bolin, all of Tell City; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel with burial in St. John Chrysostom Church Cemetery in New Boston, where there will be military graveside rites conducted by V.F.W. Post #2939. Rev. Don Overton will officiate. Visitation will be 4:00 until 8:00 PM Friday and from 10:00 AM until service on Saturday.
