Charles F. Castleman
Charles F. Castleman, age 77, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Deaconess Hospital.
Charlie was born in Evansville to the late, Charles Eugene and Olivia (Salmen) Castleman.
Mr. Castleman was an employee of the United States Postal Service for over 40 years; he worked for 20 of those years at the Westside Post Office as a Postal Clerk before retiring on June 3, 1997. He was a 1955 graduate of Mater Dei High School and served for three years with the United States Marine Corps
. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Past Grand Knight and life member of the Knights of Columbus #565, 4th Degree of Msgr. A.J. Sprigler Assembly 0253, president and life member of the Westside Optimist Club, Ambassador and Emeritus of Gibault Children Services in Terre Haute, IN and a 56 years member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #427. He was named Optimist of the Year in 2001 and Knight of the Year in 1990. Charlie enjoyed playing golf and he and his wife were members of the Coterie Dance Club for over 30 years.
Surviving Charlie are his wife of 32 years, Eloise (Hobgood) Castleman; his daughters and sons-in-law, Sara and Richard Fischer of Evansville, Amy and Bill Georges of Evansville and Julie and Ken Groth of Erie, CO; sister, Anna Franks of Decatur, AL; eight grandchildren, Eric Georges and his wife, Kristine, SSgt. Adam Georges and his wife, Stephanie of Jacksonville, NC, Paul Fischer, Matthew Fischer, Beth Fischer, Conner Groth, Kylie Groth and Cody Groth; two great grandchildren, Jacob Georges and Parker Georges, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rev. Kenneth Herr officiating. Burial will follow in Tupman Cemetery, where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 until service time on Saturday at St. Boniface.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gibault Children Services, 6401 S. US Highway 41, Terre Haute, IN 47802-9917 or to St. Boniface Catholic Church 418 N. Wabash Ave, Evansville, IN 47712 for the Grotto at the church.
