Gloria Jean Lovellette, 68, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away, Saturday, July 5, 2014, at her residence surround by family.
She was born January 28, 1946, in Princeton, Indiana, the daughter of Eugene D. and Loretta (Parker) Garrett. Gloria was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School and Southern Illinois University with a B.S. in Education. On August 30, 1964, she married Stephen J. Lovellette at the First Christian Church in Mt. Carmel. Gloria was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Mt. Carmel and sang in the church choir.
Gloria was a school teacher, first teaching in Indianhoma, Oklahoma, also in Lawton, Oklahoma, Wichita Falls, Texas, and substitute taught in District #348 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. In 1973, she and her husband moved back to Illinois to operate the family farm by Keensburg. Later, they purchased and remodeled the Grayville Dairy Queen. She was also involved with the family radio station WNOI-FM in Flora, Illinois. Gloria was a past member of the Wabash General Hospital Board of Directors, a member of the Matinee club, Wednesday's Ladies Golf League and helped start the YMCA. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren whether it be at horse shows, swim team, ice hockey, soccer, 4-H or home. Gloria was an avid reader, loved gardening, cooking and spending time with family and friends. Gloria loved to travel and was able to visit many destinations. One of her more memorable trips was traveling to Europe with her daughter, Holly. Spending time in Florida on the beach was one of her many joys.
Survivors include her husband, Stephen J. Lovellette; daughter, Holly Diamond and husband Travis, of Allen, Texas; and son Ryan Lovellette of Mt. Carmel; grandchildren, Jackson, Carson, Isabella Diamond and Harrison Lovellette. Also surviving is her mother, Loretta Garrett; a brother, Dwayne Garrett and wife Debbie of Austin, Texas, a sister, Lisa Miller and her husband Randy of Richmond, Texas; a sister-in-law, Marjan Reel and husband Stephen of Greenwood, Indiana; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her father, Eugene Garrett.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Short Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, July 11, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. also in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home. A private burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
