H. Wayne Hartig
H. Wayne Hartig, age 72, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the Westpark Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Hartig was born January 28, 1941 in St. Louis, MO. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Indiana University
in 1964 and his Master's of Business Administration in 1966. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Wayne returned to Evansville to work at Mel-Kay Electric Company and in 1980 founded and was the president of Hartig Electric Company. He became very involved in many civic activities through his membership in Jaycees. Through his Jaycee involvement he was instrumental in getting picnic tables and playground equipment for the new Wesselman Park. He was a past president of the Vanderburgh County Chapter of the Indiana University Alumni Club. He was a member of the Evansville Safety Board during Mayor Russell Lloyd's administration. Wayne was a member of the Philharmonic Board of Directors and served as the chairman of the 1977 WNIN Channel 9 Auction. He also served as a Division Chairman of the 1977 United Way Campaign. Formerly a member of Bethel United Church of Christ, he served as president of the Church Council. In 1972, Mr. Hartig was awarded the Jaycees Distinguished Service Award as Evansville's "Outstanding Young Man". He also served as Director of the Evansville Boys Club and on the Executive Board of Thunder on the Ohio. Wayne enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, golf, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Indiana University Sports.
Surviving Wayne are a daughter, Elizabeth (Bob) Burkart and two sons, Timothy and Scott (Carrie) Hartig, all of Evansville; his mother, Mary Lois (Greenwell) Hartig of Evansville; three sisters, Karen (Tom) Fegan of Dayton, OH, Diana (Gary) Lynn of Evansville and Kathleen (Tom) Schmitt of Seattle, WA and a brother, Gary (Donna) Hartig of Evansville; five grandchildren, Ryan, Emily and Matthew Burkart and Edward and Harrison Hartig and two nieces, Carrie Lynn and Amy Schumacher.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Simon Hartig in 1975.
Funeral services for Wayne will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Pierre Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
