James Bruner Obituary

James "Jim" William Bruner
Evansville, Indiana
James "Jim" William Bruner, 74, of Buford, GA, formerly of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at VistaCare Hospice in Atlanta, GA. He was born March 26, 1938, in Evansville, to the late James Arthur and June (Cecil) Bruner.
He was a track star and captain of his football team at Bosse High School. He attended Indiana University and graduated with a BA in Business and went on to earn his MBA. While at Indiana University he was president of the Delta Chi Fraternity and played running back for the football team. Jim served in the Air Force Reserves. He was an avid reader and loved history; his favorite historical figures were Alexander Hamilton and Abraham Lincoln. He especially enjoyed reading about the Civil War and visiting various battlegrounds from the Civil War. Jim may have played football, but as a true Hoosier, his first love was basketball. He loved to watch Indiana University play basketball.
Jim had a lifetime career with Chrysler Financial. He worked his entire career in finance and retired from Chrysler Financial as a Vice President in 2001. During his long career his family lived in Idaho Falls, ID, Detroit, MI, Atlanta, GA, Newtown, CT, Memphis, TN, Jacksonville, FL and Indianapolis, IN. For the majority of his career, Jim lived in Newtown, CT.
His wife, Jane, was the love of his life. They met in the sandbox at age two and married while still in college. They were married 53 years. He was a loving father of three. One of the hardest moments in his life was the loss of his oldest daughter when she was 19, Becky Bruner. He was also very actively involved with his grandchildren and a big part of their lives.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Becky Bruner.
He is survived by his wife, Jane (Day) Bruner; son, Sam Bruner; daughter, Jill (Bruner) Percy, both of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Taylor (Bruner) Donaldson of Decatur, GA, Becky Bruner, Jack Bruner and Sam Percy, All of Alpharetta, GA; and great-grandson, Charles Wesley Donaldson of Decatur, GA.
Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Pastor David Peterson with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

I was so sad to hear if Jim's passing this morning. He was such a great man who mentored me and a number of my peers. He taught me much and gave me great support. I have fond memories of working in the area office in Atlanta, it was a very special time under his direction and guidance. I feel badly it's been 10 years since we last spoke but he has always been in my thoughts. God bless Jane and Jim's entire family.

Aunt Jane...

I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of Uncle Jim's passing. It's bittersweet & comforting to know that Becky must have been waiting, with those long outstretched arms and a beautiful beaming smile to welcome him home.

Peace, prayers and love to you and the family.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the entire Bruner family in this time of sorrow. I met Jim when he was branch manager of Wash. DC. I admired him as a manager, and as a good and compassionate man.

March 11, 2013

We are thinking of Jane, Jill, Sam, Taylor and all Jim's beloved family at this most difficult time. I am remembering Jim's contagious laugh and extraordinary kindness. I know Becky is thrilled to have her dad there with her. God bless.

Mary Ann and I were shocked and saddened to here of Jim's passing. He was my best friend and an important part of our life. It is difficult to know what to say to the family at times like these but we want them to know that they are in our thoughts and prayers. Jim loved his family; and has left them with many fond memories.

We feel his loss deeply and join the many others who will miss him, but we remain grateful still for having known him.
