James D. Scott, 80, of Palm Desert, California, formerly of Evansville, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 30, 2013.
Jim was born on June 3, 1933, and was the son of Frank and May (Woods) Scott of Evansville. He graduated from F. J. Reitz High School in 1951. Jim was a member of the Reitz Golf Team and the 1951 Basketball Team advancing to the State Finals before missing the State Championship Title by one shot. He attended Purdue University and graduated from Evansville College in 1959.
Upon graduation, Jim began his life-long career with Merck Pharmaceutical Company as a Sales Representative. During his 33 years at Merck, Jim advanced positions moving his family to Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and Pennsylvania. After being promoted to Regional Sales Manager in 1973, he and his family settled in Villa Park, California. Jim and his wife, Emma Lou, relocated to Palm Desert, California, in 1993 upon his retirement. Prior to his stroke in 2004, Jim was an avid golfer and loved to travel, often returning to Evansville to visit life-long friends. Jim continued to live his life with a positive attitude during the last 9 years finding enjoyment in his family and visits from friends, and bravely fought cancer several times.
Jim was a member of Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church and Indian Ridge Country Club.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Emma Lou (Diver), of Palm Desert, California; their son, Craig A. Scott and his wife, Lena, of Palcenta, California; and their daughter, Kathy Fitzmaurice and her husband, Joe, of Santa Maria, California; and grandchildren James and Megan Fitzmaurice, and Andrew Scott; his sister, Joella (Scott) Moore and her husband, Loren; sister-in-laws, Bobbi Diver and Peggy (Diver) Julian and her husband, Ken, all of Evansville, Indiana; nephews, Scott Moore of Fairfield, Ohio, and Kevin Moore and David Moore, both of Evansville. The family also thanks Jim's caregivers Edgar Ruiz and Alphonso Martinez for their loving care during the past nine years.
Jim was preceded in death by their infant son, Douglas Brooks Scott, his parents, and his nephew, Michael Moore.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by Forest Lawn Memorial Park & Mortuary, Indio, California. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church where he will be interred in the Columnbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church, 47-321 Highway 74, Palm Desert, California, 92260.
