James (Jay) W. Martin
James (Jay) W. Martin, 74, went to be with the Lord and his father, James E. Martin on August 1, 2013.
Jim was born in Evansville, IN on June 20, 1939, to James E. and Ferol Martin. He attended Stringtown School and graduated from Reitz High School. After transferring from Purdue University
, he received a bachelor's degree in business and accounting from the University of Evansville. He also earned a master's degree with scholastic honors in international and corporate tax from the University of Denver School of Law. Jim's main emphasis in business was taxes. He was an agent for both the federal and state of Indiana Internal Revenue Service. Later, he worked in the corporate tax offices of Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Akron, OH. He also established the tax department of Federal Express at the company's infancy in Memphis, TN and later became the director of taxes for United Airlines in Chicago, IL. Jim returned to Evansville to care for his father, James E. Martin, who preceded him in death.
Aside from the business world, James was a true race car enthusiast. He annually attended the car races at the Salt Flats of Utah as well as other races. Jim was also a member of Old North United Methodist Church.
Jim was comforted by the love of his mother, Ferol Martin, as well as Brenda Bennett who both survive him. He also leaves behind several cousins, especially Dean Burton and Charles Burton.
A memorial service for James W. Martin will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. at Old North United Methodist Church, 4201 Stringtown Rd Evansville, IN 47711, with Pastor Mike Monahan officiating. Friends may visit from 2:00 P.M. until service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Evansville, Martin Family Scholarship Fund.
