Joseph A. Rietman
Joseph A. Rietman, age 84, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Deaconess Hospice Care Center.
Joe was born May 15, 1929 to the late Bernard and Magdalena (Folz) Rietman in St. Philip, IN. Joe attended St. Philip Grade School and worked at his father's grocery store and tavern. He also delivered milk from local farmers to the Evansville Dairy. He worked for a couple of years at Bud Miller's in Garvin Park as a bartender. Joe also worked as an auto salesman for Nix Auto Sales in Poseyville and retired from Sterling Brewery after 30 years.
Joe was drafted into the United States Army
and served from 1951 to 1953. He trained at Camp Breckenridge during the Korean Conflict
and was sent to Germany to serve as an Army medic.
Joe married the love of his life, Ruby Klenck on June 18, 1953 at St. Wendel Catholic Church. They celebrated 60 years of marriage together. Joe enjoyed being with his family and getting together for special occasions. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends, going to SWIRCA, playing cards, dancing and bowling. In his younger years, Joe enjoyed roller skating with his buddies and bought a pair of Chicago Roller Skates. He also enjoyed cars and took great pride in his own. Joe was a member of the Knights of St. John at St Wendel and a life member of VFW
Post #6576 at Wadesville.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ruby (Klenck) Rietman; a daughter, Judith Ann "Judy" (Donald) Cox of Haubstadt; son, Thomas Joseph "Tom" (Patricia) Rietman of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Kyle Cox, Kristen (Derek) Kleemann, Brittney (Jake) Boger, Lindsey (Scott) Beard, Nathan and Justin Rietman; five great grandchildren, Landon Kennebeck, Elijah, Gabriel and Emma Kleemann and Addyson Beard. Also surviving are a brother, Walter Rietman of Haubstadt, brother-in-law, Jerry (Eleanor) Klenck of Mt. Vernon and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Mildred Klenck; brother, Bernard Rietman, sisters, Sr. M. Augusta Rietman, O.S.B. Esther Humpert, Leola Weinzapfel and Marjorie Toon; sisters-in-law, Venita Rietman and Ruth Rietman; brothers-in-law, Louis Humpert, Joe Toon and Tony Weinzapfel.
Funeral services will begin at 9:30 A.M. on Monday, January 13, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rev. Theodore Tempel officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Mausoleum where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Monday at St. Boniface.
