Raymond Ballard Ayers Jr., 87, of Evansville, passed away at 6:34 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012, at Angel River Health and Rehabilitation.
Raymond was born January 4, 1925, in Evansville, the son of Raymond and Grace (Ballard) Ayers. He was a 77-year member of First Baptist Church. Raymond was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II and was a member of Charles Denby VFW Post #2953 and National Association of Past Commanders #2953. He retired in 1981 from Swanson Nunn Electric after 25 years of service as an electrician. Raymond was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Evansville, Masonic Lodge #64 F & AM, No Ruz Grotto, Sword of Bunker Hill Pocket City #82, American Legion Funkhouser Post #8 and 40 and 8 Club.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Candace and Steve Dance, of Evansville; grandchildren, Brennan Dance, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Kendra and Bryan Wagner, of Evansville; great-grandchildren, Curtis and Michael Wagner; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Martha (Morrow) Ayers in 2003.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, with Reverend Dr. George Huffsmith officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will perform full military rites.
Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel where the Evansville Masonic Lodge # 64 will hold a memorial service at 6:30 p.m.
