Robert Berry

Robert "Bob" Alan Berry
Evansville, Ind.
Robert "Bob" Alan Berry, 65, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, April 22, 2013.
Bob was born in Evansville, Indiana on June 6, 1947. Bob was a devoted husband to Phyllis J. Berry, father to Jo Nell Hawes (David) and Scott Alan Berry (Billie Jo) and very proud grandpa to Alex Hicks, Chloe Berry, Sophie Berry and Nathan Hawes.
Bob graduated from North Posey High School in 1965. He joined the Army and went to Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division. Bob gained the rank of Spec 5, where he was a communications specialist stationed overseas at Bein Hoa and Phu Bai.
He owned and operated Berry's Automatic Door Service for 40 years, traveling around the tri state area to service automatic pedestrian doors at local businesses. Bob never met a stranger and is remembered by all as "the big guy in the blue shirt". He loved to travel out west and especially loved Arizona. He enjoyed coaching Scott's T-ball and baseball teams and faithfully pulled the Reitz marching band trailer to all of Jo's competitions. He adored his grandkids and Scott and Jo often found it incredible that the stern, formidable father they remembered could be such a "softie" with Alex, Chloe and Sophie. He loved to watch the three of them play basketball at school this past winter. Even though he was sick he made it to many of the home games. Everyone could hear him coaching and cheering from the sidelines.
In May 2011 Bob was diagnosed with Multiple Melanoma. While fighting the cancer he continued to enjoy his life. He sold his business in October of 2011but continued to consult for a year. You could always trust that Bob would have the answer to any question. He was not afraid to "think outside the box". His answer might not have been conventional but almost always worked. He was always willing to lend a hand to others with the use of his time, knowledge and equipment.
Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, children, grandchildren; his brother, William Berry (Judy) of Menomonee Falls, WI; cousins, Carolyn Campbell, Lela Asay-Evans (Billy), Mary Rose Wampler (Fred); aunt, Arlene Campbell and extended family and friends.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Kathleen Clarice Berry of Wadesville, sister, Kathleen J. Berry and infant brother, Robert J. Berry.
