Robert Levi passed away peacefully at VNA Charlier Hospice on April 22, 2013. He was born in Evansville on March 18, 1929, to Louis B. Levi and Selma Kahn Levi. He graduated from Indiana University
in 1950 with a Bachelor's degree in Business and went to work with his father at Guardian Insurance. He was later joined by his brother Richard Levi in creating Levi Brothers Insurance. He also was the proprietor for many years of Rivertown Antiques in downtown Newburgh.
Bob was a long-standing member of Temple Adath B'Nai Israel, where he served on the Board and as a past president .
He was very active in community service as a member of the Jaycees and the Downtown and Breakfast Optimist Clubs. He volunteered at Mended Hearts and as a driver for cancer patients in the Road to Recovery program. He was also a docent with the Evansville Museum and served on docent board there.
Bob is survived by his devoted companion of 21 years, Helen Ann Siegel; his son Josh Levi and daughter-in-law Lori and their three children, Nicholas, Lillian, and Abigail; his daughter Robynn Levi Merkel and her husband Monte and their two children, Aidan and Phoebe; his brother Richard A. Levi of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Emery Levi in 1991.
Graveside services will be held following visitation, Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Rose Hill Cemetery, Evansville with Rabbi Helen Bar-Yaacov officiating.
Friends may call from 11 am until 2 pm, service time, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville.
